Weekend 6/20 & 6/21

Greetings All,

We would like to thank everyone that purchased lychees this year. THANK YOU.

We will NOT be opened this weekend 6/20 and 6/21. Mangoes still not quite ready yet.

I have received a lot of calls from people telling me that our website says we are opened.
Actually, they are looking at a Google page that has incorrect information about our operating hours.

We are open when we have something to sell. When we have something to sell, everybody on this e-mail list will be the first to know. It will be posted on islandtropicalfruit.com as well.

We are also getting a lot of calls about picking mangoes. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer picking of any fruit this year.

As you most of you know, there are several vendors selling mangoes on Merritt Island. Each vendor operates in a way that works for them. Some may ask you to wear a mask, some may not.
When we do open, and you plan to visit our farm, you should be prepared to wear a mask.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Regards,
Nick

We still have some Brewster lychee available. They will be for sale tomorrow morning 6/16/2020 at 10:00 am.

Brewster lychee will be sold in 5 pound bags for $35.00 ($7.00/pound). Cash is the only form of payment we accept.

When you arrive for pick up, please stay in your car. One of our staff will come to your car and get your order number. They will then go get your fruit and bring it to you.

Thank you.

THERE WILL BE NO OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO HANDLE ANY OF THE FRUIT.

Mauritius Lychees this Saturday

Greetings All,

I hope this note finds you and your family well. This is not the way we want to operate, but it is the way we have to operate this year.

OK, here we go…

We will be selling Mauritius Lychees this Saturday from 10:00 am until they are sold out. Brewster, Sweetheart, and Emperor are not ready yet. Brewster and Emperor are still green. Sweethearts are small and need to fatten up.

Here is how we are going to work this out. We (not you) are going to pick the lychees. We are going to pre weigh them in 3 pound, 5 pound, and 10 pound bags. You will have to trust us. If you don’t, don’t come.

We will be offering lychees in the following set quantities at a price of $6.00 per pound:

  • 3 pounds for $18.00
  • 5 pounds for $30.00
  • 10 pounds for $60.00

You will go to our website and fill out the form. Then you will print it out, and present it to us when you arrive at the farm. You WILL stay in your vehicle and we put your order together, and then bring it to you. You will then hopefully pay us the correct amount, we will say THANK YOU and you will leave.

If you do not have a printer to print out the sheet, simply write your order on a piece of paper and give it to us. We will then do our best to fulfill your order depending on supply

We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we really don’t know what to expect.

Unfortunately, this is not the year to bring the whole family to tour the orchard, Andrew Jackson and Ben Franklin are OK. I know after being confined to your homes, a visit to the orchard would be the perfect getaway. However, nobody will be allowed in the orchard. Hopefully we can post more videos online.

THERE WILL BE NO OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO HANDLE ANY OF THE FRUIT.

There will not be an opportunity to sample anything.

There will be no handling of fruit by customers. This means you will not be able to “pick and choose” each piece of fruit like you have in the past.

Mangoes
LIMITED QUANTITY

We may have some mangoes available. Right now it looks like Florigon, Edwards, Van Dyke, Irwin, Nam Doc Mai, Glenn maybe a few others. They will be sold by the pound as well. Expect $3 per pound. They will be pre weighed and sold in set quantities as well. Probably minimum 5 pounds, and 10, 20 pounds.

We don’t have an order form for mangoes yet, so write it on the back of the lychee order or on a piece of paper.

Again, you will not be able to handle them like you have in the past. I’m sorry.

I explained this to someone today…and they asked me if I was going to put all the bad fruit in a bag and give it to them since they could not handle it. Yes, somebody really asked me that. Really.

If you are worried…that we would give you “bad” fruit,…then you shouldn’t come to our farm. It’s that simple. We don’t even give bad advise.

This is not the way we want to operate, however, this is the way we are going to have to operate this year.
We ask for your patience as we have never done this before and don’t know what to expect.

As usual, payments will still be in cash. Please do not be offended as we take your money while wearing gloves and then spray it with bleach or some other cancer causing agent. Please have the exact amount ready. This will help keep interactions to a minimum.

Any questions, text 321-243-2997

Regards,

Nick

Sales Update for 2020 Fruit Season

Greetings All,

I hope this note finds you and your family well.

I would like to give an update on the upcoming fruit season and discuss how we are planning to operate this year due to COVID-19.

First of all, the fruit set looks good. All five varieties of lychee have set fruit. The mangoes look good as well. There were two blooms on the mango trees this year and the trees have a combination of large and small fruit on them. If we can only keep the storms away, we can keep more fruit on the trees.

More importantly, how are we going to sell this year?
We will be following the guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as well as all other governmental guidelines. We will also be implementing some of our own safeguards to keep everyone safe.
Hopefully, we can return to normal operations next year. Unfortunately, this year we are forced to operate in “non-ideal” conditions. We want to notify you up front, so you can be prepared for our operations when you arrive.

Unfortunately, this is not the year to bring the whole family to tour the orchard. I know after being confined to your homes, a visit to the orchard would be the perfect getaway. However, nobody will be allowed in the orchard. Hopefully we can post more videos online.

THIS YEAR

No one will be allowed into the orchard and you will not need to leave your car.

THERE WILL BE NO OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO HANDLE ANY OF THE FRUIT.

There will not be an opportunity to sample anything.

Your experience will be much better if you know before you arrive, what you would like.
You can download an order form from our website (NOT THERE YET), fill it out before you arrive and hand it to us when you arrive. We will then do our best to fulfill your order depending on supply.

There will be no handling of fruit by customers. This means you will not be able to “pick and choose” each piece of fruit like you have in the past.

This year we will be selling fruit in pre-packaged quantities that is simply ready for pick up.

For example;
We will be offering lychees in the following set quantities at a price of $6.00 per pound:
3 pounds for $18.00
5 pounds for $30.00
10 pounds for $60.00

So, If you would like 20 pounds, simply buy two of the ten pound bags.

Mangoes will be sold the same way. For the varieties we will have available, they will be in pre-determined quantities. Probably like 5 pound, 10 pound and 20 pound packages. Mangoes will be priced between $2.50 and $3.00 per pound

This is not the way we want to operate, however, this is the way we are going to have to operate this year.
We ask for your patience as we have never done this before and don’t know what to expect. If you are an impatient person, a super important person, or a toilet paper hoarder, you may be better off fruit shopping elsewhere. (believe it or not, I’ve already been yelled once for apparently not answering my phone.)

As usual, payments will still be in cash. Please do not be offended as we take your money while wearing gloves and then spray it with bleach or some other cancer causing agent. Please have the exact amount ready. This will help keep interactions to a minimum.

We are also exploring the idea of using ZELLE https://www.zellepay.com/ as a form of electronic payment. Check with your bank to see if they offer ZELLE options. I do not foresee us accepting any kind of credit card at this time.

Any questions, call 321-243-2997
(..if I don’t answer, leave a message, it that doesn’t work, send a text)

Regards, Nick
